Political Cartoon: NSA

Background

The above political cartoons presents commentary on the NSA and its involvement in international affairs. NSA stands for the National Security Agency. It is the main producer and management of signals intelligence for the United States. The NSA is tasked with the global monitoring, collection, decoding, translation and analysis of information and data for foreign intelligence and counterintelligence purposes, including surveillance of targeted individuals on U.S. soil.

Meaning

The cartoon suggests that the NSA is watching too closely and invading privacy. Recent complaints have come from Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel. She went on to add that "there must not be such surveillance of a head of government's communications," and "that would be a serious breach of trust. Such practices must be stopped immediately." The issue is so important to her not only because her phone had been monitored but because "her phone represents "the phones of millions of Europeans."

An issue arises when you consider removing or re-writing some of the regulations set forth by the NSA. The US repeatedly insist that invading personal privacy is not its motive, but rather to protect its own country.
